“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot
be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart.”
-Helen Keller

What will my first appointment be like?

Because counseling looks different for everyone, I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs, challenges, and goals. During our first session together, we will become acquainted with each other while reviewing your intake paperwork and discussing your needs, concerns, and desired outcomes. Then, we will determine our course of treatment and plan for achieving your goals. My ultimate goal is to provide a safe place for healing. I hope to walk along this road of recovery with you, but please rest assured that if we decide I am not the best fit, I am happy to refer you to a local colleague who may be better able to assist you in your needs.

Does counseling actually help people?

Absolutely. Counseling can help you heal from difficult life events, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and grief. It is a place where you can openly express your feelings in a judgment-free environment, receive genuine support, and learn effective, healthy ways to manage stress, improve communication, and feel more fulfilled in your life.

How long will the process take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique. The length of time to achieve your goals depends on your specific needs, commitment to personal development, successful application of therapeutic strategies, and overall satisfaction in your accomplishments throughout the journey.

Why not just take medication?

Medication can be effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy. However, medication alone does not teach important resilience and communication skills to achieve personal or relational goals. Nor does it address the core issues causing symptoms of distress, which can be addressed with therapies such as Eye Movement & Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) or Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT).

Getting the most out of therapy…

Active participation and dedication is crucial to therapeutic success. The work that is done by the client between sessions is necessary to create lasting change and to make the most out of the session time.

Do we have to be married to be in couples therapy?

Relationships are diverse. As a therapist, I welcome all couples, no matter their relationship status. You can learn more about couples therapy here.
